Portraits of the Children: Culturally Competent Assessment is designed to provide viewers with the background information and effective practice techniques necessary to offer culturally competent assessment for special-education eligibility. The video program includes:

• four culturally-diverse case studies presented by school psychologists and their multidisciplinary teams covering students from pre-school to high school age levels,
• interview with Alan Kaufman of Yale School of Medicine,
• commentary from educator Asa Hilliard of Georgia State University,
• discussions on the use of interpreters, bilingual assessment, and the role of culture, race, and language on school performance; and more.

The CD-ROM contains the entire video plus user's guide, resource and reference lists, web links, hand-outs, and OSEP Discretionary Grant information.
