Professionals across the U.S. and around the world are realizing that co-teaching can be an extraordinarily effective way to ensure students meet the rigorous achievement demands of 21st century schooling while simultaneously addressing their specialized learning needs.

Co-Teach! A Manual for Creating and Sustaining Effective Classroom Partnerships in Inclusive Schools, 2nd Edition is designed to address your questions about co-teaching, whether you are just anticipating co-teaching, are a novice co-teacher, or are a veteran co-teacher.

  • How should instruction in co-taught classes be different from instruction in solo taught classes, especially in the context of the Common Core State Standards?
  • What does effective co-teaching look like? How do experienced co-teachers add variety and effectiveness to their co-teaching?
  • What are some of the secrets co-teachers use to develop strong professional relationships?
  • Are there any solutions at all to the dilemma of co-teachers not having and unlikely to get shared planning time?
  • How is co-teaching implemented by ESL teachers as well as other professionals, in addition to special educators?
  • What does the research say about the effectiveness of co-teaching?
  • What are the critical characteristics that define co-teaching and distinguish it from other instructional options?
  • What are the issues and concerns that co-teachers are more likely to face?

Co-Teach! is crammed with up-to-date information presented in a friendly manner meant to lead you and your colleagues to thoughtful analysis, lively discussions and critical decision-making. It is written specifically for teachers and other professionals at elementary, middle school and high school levels who plan to co-teach or who are ready to take their practices to the next level. Co-Teach! is a great resource for book study, professional learning communities and other professional developmental activities.
