from Illness, Injury and Medical Intervention
February 27 & 28, 2010
Davidson Center, University of Southern California
WEBCAST AVAILABLE Until September 1, 2010**
Early health care experiences are common to most all children. 58% of all pediatric admissions to hospitals are of children under five years of age. A similar percent is true for accidents and injuries. The long-lasting, and sometimes life-altering, impact of these early experiences has never received the attention it deserves.
Substantial work has been accomplished for babies in neonatal intensive care units that has greatly improved outcomes. And, significant work has been done related to 6 to 18 year olds in different aspects of the health care system.
However, the unique developmental needs of children birth to five, the highest consumers of pediatric health care, have received markedly little research nor specifically focused clinical care.
The 1st International Conference, Pediatric Psychological Trauma in Infants and Young Children from Illness, Injury and Medical Intervention brings together an interdisciplinary group of distinguished health care professionals who are coming together to discuss their work on behalf of young children, to identify the challenges they face and to build a vision and plan to minimize severe distress and pain while improving clinical practice and outcomes.
The conference is designed to appeal to a wide audience: pediatricians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, child life specialists, physical and occupational therapists, researchers and all others interested in the medical experience, science, and clinical care of the developing young child.
