LearninGames is the early childhood curriculum developed for the Carolina Abecedarian Project. This project provided child-care based intervention for at-risk children from birth to 60 months of age.
These children were followed to age 21. Results included higher IQ detected as early as 18 months for children in the project, improved school performance, reduced grade retention, delayed childbearing, and greater likelihood to attend a four-year college.
The curriculum activities are derived from milestones in the domains of social/emotional, cognitive/creative, language, and motor development.
Each game is simple and fun and provides caregivers with an example of how to enhance child development. Since the games are designed as a compendium of games or learning events, they are appropriate for child care, home visits, and parent groups.
Learning Games are divided into five 12-month sections: birth to 12 months, 12 months to 24 months, 24 months to 36 months, 36 months, to 48 months, and 48 months to 60 months.
