The 3-chapters of Managing Everyday Challenges through Positive Guidance include:
Developing Positive Relationships to Support Young Children's Social and Emotional Development (24 minutes)
Building positive relationships with children and their families is the first step toward successful classroom management. Children are more likely to work with a teacher if they feel the teacher is interested in them beyond just their behavior in the classroom.
Family members are more likely to work with a teacher if they feel the teacher is invested in their family beyond what behavior a child presents at school that day or concerns over academic achievement. This will increase the likelihood that a quality flow of information between home and school occurs, which will give a teacher valuable insight into her students.
Preventitive Practices in the Preschool Classroom (35 minutes)
There are many different preventative practices that teachers can engage in to shape the behaviors and interactions they see occurring in their classrooms.
Preventive practices include the physical design of the classroom, implementing engaging curriculum, intentionally creating classroom routines and schedules to fit the specific needs of the children, and establishing consistent limits and ground rules are all effective measures that can benefit the overall climate of a preschool classroom.
This program looks at each of these preventative practices in detail.
