John Bowlby: Attachment Theory Across Generations

Dr. John Bowlby's understanding of attachment relationships and their enormous impact on lives throughout the entire life cycle has become basic to the study of developmental and clinical psychology. Filmed both in London where Bowlby spent his working life and in New York City where therapists are using his therapeutic approach with adult clients this film gives an overview of the scope of his contributions.

Attachment Theory Across Generations includes footage from an on-going longitudinal study documenting the secure attachment history of a boy at one year six years and now as an appealing twenty-year old university student. Touching segments from therapy sessions with adults who have had troubled attachment histories illustrate Bowlby's approach to psychotherapy.

Attachment theory developed from Bowlby's vast intellectual interests his respect for the work of others and his own personal experiences. This is discussed in the video by Bowlby his colleagues and his adult children.
