From ancient times to the telethons of today\'s growing disability movement, this video traces the often overlooked history of people with disabilities down through the ages.
With a combination of facts and rare historical footage the video looks at historical stereotypes, including the "medical model"; stereotypes in films, television, and other media; the ongoing struggle for disability rights; the effects of technology on people's ability to work and live independently; and disability as a diversity issue.
Although the video doesn't shy away from the abuses of the past (including the murder of more than 200,000 people with disabilities during Hitler's reign, it ends with a hopeful look at the future as changing attitudes and advancing technology help people with disabilities to enter the global economy.
