The purpose of Making Sense of My World is to give parents and caregivers the tools to become actively involved in their child's development and to offer guidelines on how to provide the right play and activities at the right time.
The series covers the first year of a baby's life. During this very important stage of development the baby learns to adapt to his or her new world. It is at this early age that we can promote sensory integration in babies as well as identify and overcome problems.
The videos in this series are presented chronologically (Birth to 3 months, 3 to 6 months, 6 to 9 months, and 9 to 12 months) and divided into five sections. Each section covers an area of sensory and motor development including:
The videos outline the major characteristics of each age group, provide general guidelines on how to engage babies, and underscore the importance of recognizing individual differences. This is followed by suggestions for activities to support babies as they develop relevant skills at each stage.
The games and activities are practical and can be carried out during everyday activities, such as during diapering, bathing, or feeding. This series introduces Kate Bailey, an Occupational Therapist from South Africa, and her infant son, Ross. Together they demonstrate the activities.
In addition a physical therapist and a speech and language pathologist offer suggestions on how to stimulate language and motor development.
Each video comes with a guide with a summary, time codes, and a glossary of terms.
